A native of South Africa and Atlanta, Dr. Gelb values his role at the Veterinary Specialty Center. He works with the latest imaging technologies–X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound, MRI and nuclear medicine scan–to help his colleagues make diagnoses and monitor treatments. He meets the challenges of his profession by melding the technologies of the Imaging Center to his knowledge of patient care, disease and veterinary medicine.

Why did you choose to specialize in radiology?

I chose my specialty because of the multiple modalities involved and the various types of cases that I see. It is rewarding because I get to work with other specialists and help diagnose. Hopefully, the problems we uncover can be treated.

What is the most important aspect of your specialty?

My education didn’t end with my veterinary degree, internship or residency. I learn every day on the job when I see something new or meet new challenges. I’m constantly soliciting feedback from other specialists on difficult cases, and doing research to stay up to date. I am also proud to share my own knowledge, making presentations at professional conferences to share the results of my own research.

What motivates you?

I love my job because I love to work with animals and their owners. I also really enjoy being a part of a treatment team. I know I can trust the knowledge, caring and skill of every veterinarian at the Veterinary Specialty Center.

It was so much better than I anticipated. I really appreciated the detailed phone call from Dr. Gelb. He went over everything he was able to see during Bella’s ultrasound.
