Anna Czekala, DVM

Emergency

Dr. Czekala enjoys the challenges of working in the emergency room, and, although the ER is often hectic, she values the time she spends with pet owners. She knows that understanding their pet’s condition is a valuable part of the decision making process, and prides herself in taking the time to discuss every option with each new client. She is dedicated to helping animals even off the clock, spending time volunteering with local shelters’ spay and neuter programs.

First favorite patient
"One of my first patients as a fourth year veterinary student was so badly injured that none of the residents or clinicians I was working under thought he would survive. But after a week in the hospital, he went home with his tail wagging. That dog really inspired me to continue working in emergency rooms, because it is amazing when an animal surprises you."

Comforting the patient
"Counciling the owners of a patient can be one of the most difficult aspects of my job, because it sometimes involved discussions of euthanasia. That said, it can be the most important part of my job. No matter the circumstance, I work to make sure the patient is as comfortable and pain free as possible."

The power of her profession
"I love being a veterinarian because I get to help those who are unable to speak for themselves and unable to help themselves. That's extremely satisfying to me."
