Veterinary Specialty Center is about so much more than treating cats and dogs. We are deeply rooted in our community and giving back is a huge part of who we are. Inside VSC we work closely with many of Chicagoland’s non-profit shelters and rescues and many of our employees volunteer with these organizations. We also provide some surgical services for dogs and cats through our Shelter Animal Surgical Service (SASS).
We do an annual pet food and supply drive for Nina’s Pet Food Pantry and Our House of Hope Pet Food Pantry and brought in almost two tons of food last year. We also sponsor potluck fundraisers called Potluck with a Purpose to raise funds for local organizations such as:
- Greater Illinois Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition
- Children’s Heart Foundation
- Hooved Animal Rescue and Protection Society
- America’s VetDogs
We also give back to our employees that volunteer. Through our VSC Cares initiative, employees are paid for an hour of volunteer work for every two hours they volunteer. We also host VSC Volunteer Days in which a team of our employees volunteer as a group. Here are a few of the groups that have benefitted:
- Aon’s StepUp for Kids benefitting Lurie Children’s Hospital
- Feed My Starving Children
- Special Olympics
VSC has also launched an Angel Fund internally that helps raise funds for pets in need. Through this program, we have partnered with The Veterinary Care Charitable Fund (VCCF), a program created by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF). The VCCF provides veterinarians with a simple and effective way to offer charitable veterinary services to clients facing personal hardships as well as animals rescued from abuse and neglect.
