Dr. Mordecai started out his career in veterinary medicine as a veterinary technician. Today, he is a specialist in internal medicine. He continues his education by attending veterinary conferences and visiting universities to learn novel interventional procedures. This passion for education extends to Dr. Mordecai’s client relationships. He believes in giving his clients all the information he can, so that they can make the most educated choices about their pet’s care.
How did you become interested in internal medicine as a specialty?
I really like the thought process of internal medicine. I particularly enjoy the challenge of identifying the problem and treating the patient. Medicine is not a linear science; you are all over the place putting obscure problems together to help the patient. Sometimes there are multiple problems happening together and other times multiple problems can be explained by one problem. That is one of the largest challenges of an internist. As an internist, we see all facets of medicine and I enjoy the variety that internal medicine provides.
Is there a particular case that inspires you?
I have been treating a patient with diabetes and hyperthyroidism for 2 years. She has come into the hospital almost weekly for 2 months because she continues to become ill. The owner has been very devoted to her and has continued to trust my abilities. I feel like the client has become a friend because we have been through so much together. The patient is feeling much better mostly because her owner has not given up on her.
Do you have any words to live by?
It wasn’t until quite late in life that I discovered how easy it is to say “I don’t know!” ~Somerset Maugham
From the time we were greeted at reception, to the nurse and the radiology techs, we had a wonderful experience. Dr. Mordecai was great. He took time with us and explained Peaches' condition and what we should look for and he reduced her prednisone. We saw Dr. Mordecai years ago when he gave us two more good years with our yorkie, Rusty. He was the best then as he is now. ~ Sharon
Our appointment was to check blood work, however, Roxy had developed a limp in the past 2 weeks. Dr. Mordecai had a surgeon look at her leg. I appreciate the fact that he consulted another doctor to look at her during this same appointment/visit. ~ Kristin
All the care and concern by Dr. Mordecai and his team since Joey was first treated in March, 2015 has been outstanding. They evaluated, treated and followed up with stellar professionalism. ~ Mary Kay
Cannot improve on perfection. Dr. Mordecai has been treating our cat since May when he suffered a severe bout of vomiting and dehydration and his regular vet of 14 years, including 5+ for which he has been treated for chronic pancreatitis, refused to see him without a 3-day wait. Dr. Mordecai has improved Tristan's condition, stopping his vomiting and putting weight on him. And, he’s calmed MY nerves, with a change of prescription diet and a conservative regime of sub-Q fluids. We will continue to see Dr. Mordecai to monitor Tristan's chronic condition. We know he will coordinate care well with our new vet. I would be remiss if I didn't note that other VSC staff have also been wonderful, particularly Vet Techs Alli & April, as have 2 people at reception, whose names I do not know. Finally your staff has been wonderful in assisting me (I am disabled) to carry the cat's crate to/from my car and the examining room. ~ Judith
Your facility, front desk staff, vet techs and docs are all top notch. Honest, compassionate and straight forward providing me with the answers I needed. Keep up the excellent work! ~ Melanie
Cassie was very professional, efficient and great with Kohl. Dr. Mordecai was patient, knowledgeable, approachable, took time in his exam and explanations. He answered a ton of questions honestly! Super nice - all in all a very good experience ~ Judy
