What do you see as one of the keys to your success?

Communication is the glue that holds together a successful relationship with everyone (the client, primary veterinarian, staff and technicians that care for the patient) involved in the care of the patient. It keeps everyone on the same page and allows everything to run smoothly from the initial consult to a full recovery.

Is there a particular case that inspired you?

I was inspired by a 12-year-old boy and his dog Scout. Scout needed surgery to treat cruciate ligament problems. The surgery went well and at the recheck, I was informed by the boy’s mother that what we did for Scout, inspired her son to pursue veterinary medicine. He wanted to help others the way we helped him.

What is your philosophy of patient care?

Patient care is not just about caring for the patient when hospitalized. In my opinion, patient care starts when I first meet the patient and client in the exam room. From there, I evaluate the patient and provide the information that is needed to make an informed decision about what treatment will work best for the family and pet. Patient care then carries on to the procedure and post-operative time spent in the hospital but it doesn’t end there. It continues through the full recovery process.

What do you like to do outside of work?

When I’m not working, I enjoy bike riding, fishing, traveling, woodworking, skiing and spending time with my family and friends.

"We brought our dog Kylie in to see Dr. David Brdecka for suspected hip dysplasia after being referred to VSC by our vet. I had done a lot of research in advance of our meeting and was a little worried about Kylie's prognosis. It was a huge comfort bringing Kylie in to see Dr. Brdecka, and we left with a great feeling of relief that Kylie was not in dire need of surgery, or facing crippling immobility. While Dr. Brdecka was able to confirm that she does have hip dysplasia, we were comfortable and confident in his recommendations, which we will follow to the letter. We will definitely be bringing Kylie back for any future issues, and will highly recommend VSC and Dr. Brdecka to friends and family members that find themselves in need of excellent, attentive card for their pets." ~ Daniel

"As always your facility was great. I feel fortunate to live near such a top notch facility with so many specialists. My dog and I saw Dr Brdecka. He took the time to explain things to me, answer my questions and addressed my concerns. I never felt rushed. Very kind doctor and treated my dog well." ~ Sandra

"The whole experience was excellent.  For the third time (two previous and very successful hip surgeries on Cassi, our female Golden Retriever, and a previous ACL surgery on Toby, the dog who needs ACL surgery) gave us great confidence and peace of mind for this time around." ~ David

"So far, our experience has been great! Scheduling the consultation and surgery was easy and straightforward. Additionally, Dr. Brdecka took the time to explain the injury and what to expect with the procedure." ~ Caitlin

"My 12-year-old Lab was diagnosed with Lar Par and Dr.  Brdecka was so good with him....Riley usually doesn't like the vet but he sat right next to him and let him pet him....almost like he knew the doctor was going to make him feel better." ~ Sharon

"We have had a great experience thus far with our dog.  He needed TTA surgery and Dr. Brdecka and his staff were great with Truman and with explaining everything each step of the way. They have called to check on Truman following discharge and everything seems to be going very well." ~ Melanie
