Rotating Internship:

Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center (PVSEC)

Because Dr. Alyssa Matos grew up in Puerto Rico where there is a large number of stray animals, she has always had a sense of responsibility toward animals. She was originally interested in human medicine until she found the veterinary profession where she could help both animals and their people.

Dr. Matos became interested in surgery during her first shadowing experiences and discovered during her clinical year that surgery was her passion. She loves the combination of the manual and technical aspects of surgery, the diversity of procedures and the reward of helping pets and their families. Often surgery is the best way to fix a problem or to give answers to help families make decisions on their pet’s quality of life.
