Metzere Berlein de la Rosa chose to go into veterinary medicine because of the challenges it brings in terms of problem-solving. Veterinary medicine allows her to use a lot of skill and knowledge while working on interesting and challenging cases every day.

What are some of the biggest challenges in ECC?

It can be difficult to build a strong emotional connection with patients and clients because we don’t have long-term follow up.

Is there a particular case that inspires you?

Last year I got the chance to work with a rescue dog with hind limb paralysis and severe secondary pressure sores. She was able to improve with time and treatment and I loved seeing her succeed against all odds with the right environment.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I love to cook, run, and spend time with my husband and 3 cats!
