Treatment Options for Pets with Cancer

The primary goal of the Veterinary Oncology Department at Veterinary Specialty Center is to help improve and prolong your pet’s quality of life. When deciding on a course of treatment for your pet, you must also take into consideration the emotional and financial factors various treatment options may have on your whole family. Since these decisions may be difficult, our team of veterinary oncologists and technicians, as well as our support service, is here to assist you through this process no matter what decision you make.

Once we have a diagnosis for your pet, treatment options may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy or a combination of treatments. Many people should be involved with your pet’s treatment starting with you, your regular veterinarian and your veterinary oncologist. Together we can choose a treatment plan that is right for you and your pet. The right treatment and care can certainly have profound effects on the health of your pet. It’s also important to keep in mind that while our veterinary oncologists can help to detect and treat cancer, an informed pet owner can help to reduce exposing pets to additional risk.

If you see signs of illness or cancer in your pet, contact your local veterinarian or our oncology team as soon as possible.
