“Growing up I wanted to be a teacher/educator. During my teenage years, I became a groom in the standardbred racing industry. That is where my spark for veterinary medicine began. As I started university I fell in love with the science behind the medicine. Combining my interest in educating and animals ultimately enabled my want to become a veterinarian.

Before studying veterinary medicine in Australia, I worked for a veterinary surgeon who focused on orthopedic surgery. It was that job that sparked an interest in the possibility of pursuing specialized training after veterinary school. On a more personal note, at the time, my ten-year-old border collie underwent two total hip replacements. Having gone through that process (including scrubbing into one of the procedures) helped me understand what stressors can arise during the post-operative period from a client’s perspective. “
