“Although my decision to pursue veterinary medicine didn’t solidify until college, I always had a deep passion for animal welfare and husbandry regardless of species. Even in elementary school, I enjoyed borrowing library books to learn how to improve the enclosures of our furry and scaly class pets. It felt significant seeing a box turtle enjoying her water dish, deep enough to soak for the first time. Combining this interest with my need to help others and solve problems, veterinary medicine became my dream career.
I hope to pursue a specialty focus in zoological medicine. My professional goals include working at a zoological institution and/or in academia. I especially enjoy avian and reptile medicine and their ever-improving advances in orthopedic surgery. Having the ability to treat and advocate for various non-traditional species aligns with how I want to contribute to society.”
