What inspired your interest in emergency medicine?
My interest in emergency and critical care was ignited during my rotating internship. The fast-paced, dynamic environment of the emergency room appealed to me greatly. I find immense satisfaction in supporting pet owners during stressful times while also educating them about their pet’s condition.
What are some of the biggest challenges in your area of expertise?
Delivering challenging diagnoses and prognoses to pet owners is one of the most difficult aspects of emergency medicine. Each family has unique needs, and guiding them towards the best decisions for their pet requires empathy, compassion, and clear communication.
Is there a particular case that has inspired you?
While every case offers valuable learning experiences, one particular case stands out. During my internship, a Beagle hospitalized with severe aspiration pneumonia over the Christmas holiday presented a significant challenge. Despite a prolonged hospitalization requiring intensive care, including oxygen therapy and multiple medications. After two long weeks being hospitalized (including celebrating a birthday in the hospital!) and a questionable prognosis during the beginning of his hospitalization, he was finally able to be reunited with his family.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling with my fiancé, immersing myself in a good book, staying active, and spending quality time with my perfect cat, Beau.
