“Like many veterinarians, I knew what career path I wanted to take very young in life. A small but impactful moment occurred when my grandmother was passing away and seeing the human-animal bond between her and her horse. Animals are incredible companions who provide so much joy in our lives, and I wanted to be a part of taking care of the animals that take care of us.
I fell into small animal surgery during veterinary school by working as a small animal surgery technician and seeking research opportunities. I found a passion for helping animals through emergency surgeries. As I have continued to learn, I have found fascination in using our knowledge of anatomy and physiology to help animals through surgical procedures. Being there to help guide owners through the stressful process of their animal needing surgery and then seeing the joy in owners afterwards has been incredibly rewarding and has driven me to pursue a career as a veterinary surgeon.”
