After a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) procedure, proper aftercare will help ensure a smooth recovery for your pet. This advanced surgical technique addresses cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injuries, allowing your dog to regain strength and mobility.

At our rehabilitation facility, we are dedicated to providing personalized postoperative care tailored to your pet's specific needs. Our comprehensive approach includes pain management, physical rehabilitation, and gradual reintroduction to activity, all designed to support your dog's healing process and promote a successful return to their active lifestyle.

Week 1

Massage: Massage the quadriceps muscles (muscles in the front of the thigh, above the kneecap).
Passive Range of Motion (PROM): Flex the knee with mild-to-moderate pressure to create a bicycle-like motion. Do 10 slow repetitions, 3 times daily.
Post-PROM Massage: Follow with another massage.
Post-PROM Ice Pack: Ice pack the knee following PROM for 5 to 10 minutes, 3 times daily for the first 3 days after surgery.
Leash Walks: Leash walk in yard for elimination purposes ONLY for 5 to 10 minutes, 3 times daily.

Weeks 2-4

Passive Range of Motion (PROM): Flex the knee with mild-to-moderate pressure to create a bicycle-like motion. Do 10 slow repetitions, 3 times daily.
Stop PROM: Discontinue PROM sometime during this period when achieving almost full range of motion.
Leash Walks: Slow leash walks for 5 to 10 minutes, 2 times daily.
Massage: Continue massage 3 times daily for the full 4 weeks.
Underwater Treadmill: Optional if the incision is fully healed.
