Since I can remember I had a passion for animals which has persisted from my childhood until this date. When I had to decide what I wanted to do with my professional life, there was only one plan, which was becoming a veterinarian. It is always gratifying to help others, and to me, helping those who cannot communicate with words feels like a calling rather than a job.

Surgery is an area of medicine that feels like a constant problem solving and, in many cases, you can solve the problem right away which feels amazing. Surgery allows you to improve and save lives of animals at any stage of life which also feels so gratifying. As a surgeon, you can repair the fractured leg of a puppy who jumped from the couch while having the ‘zoomies’ AND you can also save the senior dog that comes in with life-threatening condition like a gallbladder mucocele that is about to rupture.

I will always remember and be forever grateful to the veterinarians that saved the lives of my personal pets when they were in need of emergency surgery. As an owner, I know how stressful it is to have your pet go through surgery, especially when it is on an emergency basis. As a veterinarian and future surgeon, I want to be the person that is able to provide a sense of relief and guidance to a family when they are in a stressful situation.
