Get to Know the Expertise, Skill, and Heart Behind VSC
Why did you choose a career in veterinary medicine?
I am fascinated by the amazing bond shared by people and their pets. While the connection is very strong, it can also be delicate, especially in times of sickness. It’s incredibly rewarding to care for animals in times of need, and also to help empower owners to be able to take care of their pets they love.
What sparked your passion to focus in Neurology/Neurosurgery?
In college and vet school I had the opportunity to work with remarkable neurologists whose love for their work was contagious. I very quickly saw the importance of their work, and love the diversity and challenge of the many aspects of the field: medicine, surgery, and emergency/critical care. It is definitely never boring!
What are some of the biggest challenges in your area of expertise?
Unfortunately, there can be a lot of anxiety and fear surrounding neurology emergencies and neurological diseases. Certainly these feelings can be warranted since many neurological conditions are critical and serious. Often these fears stem from a lack of knowledge. Education is so important – with a better understanding of the problem, everyone is better able to manage neurological conditions.
Is there a particular case that has inspired you?
One special case I treated was a French bulldog who was paralyzed. While she never regained her ability to walk, she always had the best attitude. She was remarkably happy and brought joy to everyone she met. Her indomitable spirit, and her owner’s dedication, inspire me to spread positivity, and do everything I can to keep pets happy, healthy and pain free.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love art, music and theater! When the weather is nice I like taking long walks with my dog, or when we have to stay inside I like to cozy up on the couch with a big blanket. I enjoy traveling and hope to visit all of the U.S. National Parks one day! I also enjoy photography and take way too many photos of my dog Libby and cats Vivaldi and Renoir.
