Big news! Veterinary Specialty Center (VSC) is now officially EMPLOYEE-OWNED! We've successfully transitioned to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), putting ownership directly into the hands of our technicians, assistants, ward staff, sterile processing crew, client service representatives, porters, administrators, and doctors that make up our amazing team!
This exciting move secures our long-term independence, allowing us to continue operating as a locally-owned practice dedicated to our patients and community. It also makes us the first veterinary hospital in Illinois and only the second in the United States to become employee-owned!
What This Means for Our Team and Our Future
For nearly 50 years, VSC has been independently owned and operated in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Becoming employee-owned is a powerful way to honor that legacy and ensure our future is guided by the people who know specialty veterinary medicine best: our over 330 employees.
-
A Real Stake in Success
Every employee now has a direct ownership stake in VSC. This means our team directly benefits from the hospital's success, which is fundamentally tied to the exceptional care they provide every day.
-
Securing Independence
This transition ensures our commitment to high-quality patient care and our hospital's core values will continue for years to come. Decisions about VSC's future will continue to be made right here by the team on-site.
-
Commitment to Quality
Giving staff a shared, vested interest in VSC strengthens our focus on delivering exceptional, compassionate patient care. When the team is truly the owner, their motivation to maintain the highest clinical standards is amplified.
"Being an employee-owned organization is important to us because we have always been fiercely independent. We believe veterinary practices are best managed by people who understand the profession from the inside out."
Dr. Mitch Robbins,
VSC Co-owner and Chief of Surgery
"This is our way of giving our team the ability to truly feel and be owners of the practice. It's a way for our staff to directly benefit from the profits and hard work that everybody puts in, with a portion of our profits going into an employee retirement fund."
Dr. Rhonda Feinmehl,
VSC Co-owner, Medical Director, and Oncologist
Continuing to Serve Our Community
For our referring veterinarians, clients, and patients, our service remains consistent. You will continue to see the same dedicated doctors and staff, providing the full range of specialty and emergency services you trust, including 24/7/365 critical care.
By giving our staff a shared, vested interest in the hospital's well-being, we strengthen the quality of care and commitment to every patient who walks through our doors.
Thank you for trusting VSC. We look forward to this exciting new chapter as an employee-owned hospital! If you have questions, please reach out to ESOP@vetspecialy.com.
